Global Outreach > Africa Hope Malawi
Larry and Mandy Renfro proved themselves faithful in the Lord's service through years of fruitful ministry at FCCS. They provided leadership in our Childrens' ministry, praise and worship teams, and in various leadership roles. In 2003, they both began to be convicted that the Lord was calling them to the mission field in Africa. That call was confirmed after a trip to visit the work New Mission Systems had intitated in Malawi, Africa called AfricaHope. The Renfros spent the next year raising support and engaging in culture and language training. In March of 2005 they were on the field in Malawi, Africa.

Their Ministry in Malawi

Malawi is located in the southern part of Central Africa, located to the West of Lake Malawi. The greatest crisis the country now faces is severe poverty. Malawi is currently listed as one of the poorest nations on earth. Corollary to this problem is famine, drought, and disease. Malawi is also severely inflicted by the HIV/AIDS crisis and faces a decreasing life expectancy and increasing number of orphans.

Larry and Mandy will be based out of central Malawi. This mission will consist of:

  • Working with existing churches to help them expand their reach across the community to orphans.
  • Discipling leaders in the area to equip them to lead future church plants.
  • Encouraging and practicing a lifestyle of evangelism
  • Education in schools and through children’s camps about HIV/AIDS; its effects and prevention.
  • Involvement in various humanitarian efforts and famine relief around the country.

Never a dull moment!

Thank you, Lord Jesus! This month flew by and as we woke up each day, we wondered what strange thing would happen today. Despite all that has gone on this past month, this update is more of a “thank you” letter than a report on our ministry this month. We want to express our gratitude first of all to our Lord and Savior for giving us hope when we were very discouraged this month. We were devastated to learn another of our trusted workers was not what we had hoped he would be. We also faced opposition in some areas in our programs where we had to make some unwelcome changes. The Lord picked us up many times this month and gave us focus and strength when we had none left. We are thankful for what He is doing in us and through us.

Thank you, prayer warriors! We also want to thank you for your prayers on our behalf. Missionaries work very hard and sometimes don’t even notice they need rest until they are so exhausted that they can’t do anything but rest. This was also the case with us. We decided that a visit to beautiful Lake Malawi was needed. Although it was a working trip (we needed to get away to set goals and visions for the ministry), we were greatly refreshed. Your prayers have helped us to stay on task.

Thank you, supporters! Thanks to the continued financial support we receive each month we continue to be confirmed in our work here. As the Lord provides through you, we have seen souls saved, Bibles distributed, orphans fed and in school, pastors encouraged, food purchased for feeding families during the famine, hope given to those with HIV/AIDS, churches strengthened and sweet vision for the future of a ministry that we have only dreamed of. Thank you for your continued faithful financial support.

Here is a list of prayer requests:

*God’s provision during the famine and for many people to be saved physically and spiritually.

*Quality young men who serve the Lord whole-heartedly to serve as pastors and church leaders.

*That God will show us a truck that we can afford for hauling.

*Workers for the harvest field in Malawi.

The Famine is approaching!

Please continue to ask the Lord to bless the efforts to feed hungry people and present the Gospel to them. We are not just saying, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” (James 2:16) but trying to put faith in action to show them how much God loves them through people like you.

For His Glory,

Larry and Mandy Renfro
